Not too sure what we are talking about? Well here is a list of commonly used phrases we use on the JOYO website that might help a little bit. If you look at Guitar Effects by type you will find lots of demos, more details, some reviews of all of our pedals and guitar amps. If you need any help, pleask ask.

Amplifier Simulation

Amp sims recreate the sounds of classic guitar amplifiers made, but instead of a heavy amp to lug about or take up room, the tones are recreated by a guitar effect pedal.

Bass Effects

Its all about the bass, whilst modulation and spacial effects work very well across all types of instrument, overdrive and distortion really needs to account for those lower frequencies.

Chorus

Chorus divides the original signal and adds it back into the original (lightly modified) adding richness to the sound. Its a classic and sounds as good now as it did in the 80’s.

Compression

Even out volume of notes, or add sustain, compression is the most subtle guitar effect but will become one that can improve the sound of your playing.

Delay

Delay generates an echo that returns and repeats depending on the setting. The repeated sound is a precise copy of the original that you play, and the volume of the echo weakens with each repetition. Achieve Shadows slapback styles with a short time setting, or go for pink floyd echo trippy-ness.. Distortion Distortion is even more aggressive than overdrive, has a longer reverb and can be reliably found in all metal genres.

Equalisation

You definitely know equalisers from HiFi players. They serve to amplify or reduce certain frequencies such as bass, midrange and treble. These effects strengthen/weaken the frequency in the given range of roughly o +- 12 to 20 decibels.

Flanger

Sounds like a plane whooshing about your head.

Fuzz

Fuzz is a more aggressive style of compressed distortion using an excessive amount of gain to push your guitar signal beyond its limits

Amp Head

A head is simply the name for an amplifier without a speaker. Your friends won't have heads on top of amps, they'll have heads on top of speakers (with the head driving the speaker). The "basic guitar amp" also known as a combo tends to be an amplifier and speaker combined in one cabinet.

Loopers

Record, overdub, play along with yourself, repeat.

Modulation Effects

Modulation is a category of effects that do not intend to change drive or distort but manipulate the sound in a particular way so phaser, flanger, chorus, tremolo etc would all be considered modulating effects.

Multi Effects

A multi effect pedal will contain many guitar effects inside one unit that can be adjusted and saved.

Noise Gates

In simple terms it is the opposite of a compressor, which squashes signals above a threshold, such as loud attacks from the start of musical notes, noise gates squash out signals that register below the threshold. So reducing noise from noisy pedals or high gain amps.

Octave / Pitch Effects

These pedals can drop your notes down or push them up higher where your fingers cannot reach. The Octave pedal mixes the input signal with a synthesised version whose musical tone is an octave lower or higher than the original. ... Hendrix used an octave-fuzz pedal

Overdrive Effects

Overdrive effects simulates the ‘overdriving’ of a tube amp, with the resulting sound of the electric guitar being characteristically a bit ‘cracked’ and ‘gritty’. Overdrive took hold in music during the 1960s, it warms up your clean guitar tone without distorting it.

Patch Cables

These are the shorter cables that join your guitar effect pedals together. They are a 6.35mm mono cable, exactly the same as a guitar lead.

Pedal Controllers - PXL

A lot of pedals? Try changing 5 pedals at once without falling over. A pedal controller allows you to program all of that in.

Phaser Effects

Phaser effects change the volume in the chosen frequency band while also adding to the original signal its phase shifted copy. In practice, it seems as if the phaser is breathing.

Guitar Effect Power Supply

That thing with a plug on it, you can get a single power supply, a daisy chain, a multi power supply, filtered, isolated...

Reverb

Reverb is one of the most frequently used effects in music, guitars, keyboards, vocals the effect delivers a spacial sound ranging from a small room up to a large hall.

Tremolo

Tremolo is one of the oldest effects, and thanks to its simple technical realisation, it is often built into guitar amps. The effect regularly adjusts volume and strength of the signal, the speed of which can be adjusted. When set properly, a nice, swinging and pulsating effect is achieved without changing the resulting character or height of the sound.

Volume & Expression Effects

Fade in, Boost it, crank it up, okay turn it down…. Fade out… in stompbox pedal format or wah pedal style..

Wah

A wah-wah pedal (or simply wah pedal) alters the tone and frequencies of the guitar signal to create a distinctive sound, mimicking the human voice saying the onomatopoeic name "wah-wah". Auto wah or manual wah wah to get your funk on.

JOYO JF-02 Ultimate Overdrive Guitar Effect Pedal JOYO

JOYO JF-02 Ultimate Overdrive Guitar Effect Pedal

A pedal for everyone! Surprisingly subtle at low 'drive' settings but turn it up and it becomes a monster and like the vintage overdrive, it's easy to use and has no discernible background noise. This pedal is great for feedback, picking out your guitar's natural harmonics effortlessly and the high/low switch will give you that extra kick without having to change your settings

The JOYO Ultimate Drive pedal nails the timeless tones of the classic rock era. The "ocd pedal," as it has become known and well reviewed. The pedal has two settings - high and low - which allow for plenty of flexibility. The tone it creates is soothing and sweet when just a little bit of gain is dialled in. And then you start to lay into the pedal (either with another pedal up front or by turning up the drive and volume) and the ultimate drive really begins to shine.

Designed with the goal of recreating the tone of a tube amplifier at volume, the ocd's distortion is somewhat of a hybrid when it comes to solid state or vacuum tube tone. The real deal when it comes to aesthetics, sound and construction - JOYO's ultimate drive pedal features a metal shell-casing, quality connectors and sturdy controls.

The JF-02 is true-bypass, has an led on/off indicator light, and a hi/low tone switch. This pedal will provide years of service and will turn heads as the midrange cuts through the crowd. JOYO's ocd or ultimate drive distortion/overdrive pedal comes with a 9V battery, so its ready for action right out of the box.

1.Ultimate drive(OCD) is a cross between a distortion and overdrive, different from the regular diode clipping circuits.
2.High / Low tone switch.
3.True bypass design to minimize tone loss.
4.LED power indicator.
5.Gain, Level and Tone controls.
6.Powered by 6F22 9V battery( not included).

2.Output impedance: 1 kω

Buy this instead. It has more gain than the OCD and it completely rocks. Brilliantly aggressive little overdrive pedal and it more than hangs with other much ore expensive pedals on my board. Remember, just because it's cheap, doesn't mean to say that it's bad. And this one definitely isn't. I acutally recommened the UD to a lot of my friends. Some of them bought one and they feel like I do about it. Awesome value for money.

Bought one of these at the same time as the Vintage Overdrive. Ended up using that as a cleanish boost since the Ultimate Overdrive is just that. Massive range of available sounds, tones and drive levels. Work very well with the volume pot on your guitar, will clean up nicely when you drop the volume and then go to scream with the guitar flat out.Only downside is the graphic, which pushes it into metal territory, and this pedal is so much more. Buy with you ears, not with your eyes

LIke most home users I sometimes struggle to get the tone I am looking for when playing on small practice amps at home. I bought this having read some positive reviews as a secondary OD pedal. I have been blown away. It is more than a match for my considerably more expensive waza Boss super drive giving me a more hi-fi thicker tone. Very impressive at the low volumes I play at. Highly recommended.

When I bought this pedal, having very little knowledge about Joyo, I wasn't expecting much. But it blew me away! It sounds amazing, and it can be used as a very low gain overdrive or a heavy distortion. Spectacular pedal!

Guide - How to power your guitar effects and pedal board
There are a number of ways to power your guitar effects and choosing which method you use can make a difference to your board. Making sure you have the right supply will ensure if they come on, prevent them from getting damaged, or become noisy.  BatteriesPedals are made of electronics, so the power you use ensures that they stay on when you need them. Whilst the 1st series, 2nd series of JOYO pedals and DrJ pedals all can be powered with a 9v battery, this is not the best option to power a board, it is primarily convenient. Your pedal board will only sound as good as your cheape..
What Guitar Effects should you use for David Gilmour - Pink Floyd tone
We are often asked what pedals you should use to create some of the tones of David Gilmour/Pink Floyd. As with any tone chasing request, I always try and break down the elements of the sound that you hear. Each track is different, different pedals are used in different parts and of course having Davids fingers and guitar skills certainly helped him achieve his own sound. I do not think any one pedal could achieve it, to create the tones of David Gilmour unless you go for a multieffects unit and spend some time dialling it in and experimenting. There are c..
