We are often asked what pedals you should use to create some of the tones of David Gilmour/Pink Floyd.

As with any tone chasing request, I always try and break down the elements of the sound that you hear. Each track is different, different pedals are used in different parts and of course having Davids fingers and guitar skills certainly helped him achieve his own sound.

I do not think any one pedal could achieve it, to create the tones of David Gilmour unless you go for a multieffects unit and spend some time dialling it in and experimenting.

There are certainly some core guitar pedals i would look at sticking in your arsenal, most can be achieved on a budget from JOYO that will help you get in the direction. Unfortunatley there is nothing set in stone that has all this documented, Pink Floyd keep it all a big secret. I think its because none of them can remember..

however, If you listen to early Pink Floyd tones up to the Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here you would need something along the lines of:

Fuzz
Vintage / Ultimate Overdrive
Compressor
Analog Delay
JOYO XVI-polyphonic octave
phaser
wah pedal
reverb

For Pink Foyd tones from Animals / The Wall / Final Cut era you need:

Compressor
Digital Delay
Chorus
Phaser
reverb

For Pink Floyd tones from the Momentary Lapse of Reason, Division Bell, and Pulse era you need:

Fuzz
Digital Delay
Chorus
XVI - Polyphonic octave
Wah
EQ
reverb

For David Gilmour tones from the On an Island and Rattle that Lock era you need:

Compressor
Vintage Overdrive
Ultimate Drive
Voodoo Octave
Digital Delay
Chorus
reverb

So, in summary definately go for a fuzz pedal , a delay, modulation from chorus and a phaser with experimentation and time.

What JOYO gear would you use?
